The World’s Fair of Dentistry’s unique location

Last minute preparations are under way for the World’s Fair of Dentistry this weekend, September 24th and 25th, in Flushing, NY.  We’re excited to be an exhibitor not only because of the great opportunity to meet some of the members of the Queens County Dental Society, but also for it’s location at the Terrace on the Park. If you were around in 1964, you may know that this building has a rather unique history serving as a helipad as well as restaurant at the World’s Fair in 1964.

‘Take the Whirly Bird’Back then, you could travel like a star, taking a helicopter from either LaGuardia  Airport or JFK International Airport, to the Top of the Fair restaurant (as it was known then) for just $6.50 per person, round trip. Restaurant-goers were in for a treat with panoramic views of the city, as well as watching the helicopters approach the building for a landing. Vibrations shuddered through the 120 foot building while the diners enjoyed their gourmet meals. Much to their relief though, the building was at least sound-proof.

So while you are at the World’s Fair of Dentistry, enjoying some excellent presentations on the latest dental trends, take a moment to think back to the history of this unique building. And when you’re browsing the exhibit floor, make sure to drop by and see us for some refining specials for QCDS members. If you have small amounts of dental scrap that you would like to drop off, we can take them at the exhibit and have results for you within 5-7 days. We’ll see you soon!
